I want to self-learn the bass guitar, is it a must to start from learning acoustic guitar?
Posted by admin on 29th July 2010 in Acoustic Guitar Tips
Cause that’s what my dad says, but I really don’t want to spend the money on both an acoustic and a bass.
So is it a must? Will it really be better for me?

Get the acoustic first because you can hit the notes with your fingertips
If you get the electric, you will be lazier and hit the notes with lazy fingers…
I know from experience…
it’s not always a must,
but it WILL help you a lot !
1st, learn chord structure,
how a “song” is made/played.
Then you will have a better understanding of what the other musicians in the band are doing,
I’ve been playing guitar and bass, or many years, and all the really good bass players I know, either play guitar or piano too, (or both)
i learned to play bass guitar from listening to stuff on youtube then figuring it out on the bass. however, i had really horrible technique so i looked weird playing it and it made my wrists hurt. i eventually sold my bass but started learning the big bass at school. i dont think you’d need an acoustic guitar just the bass. also learning to read music would be good too and i think chord charts because they tell you how to play over a song like making it up on your own
