Guitar music question need some tips ( from advanced guitar players)?

ok well im in a metalcore/hardcore band..and i was just wondering like..what types of scales/chords do metalcore use like for solos and riffs..because their is a scale/pattern thats used in almost all metalcore riffs./solo that sounds AWSOME! but like what is it..anyone know?

    the heavier metal bands use modes of phyrigian and locrian, but some newer bands tend to use mixolidian( mix of different modes) bands like dimmu borgir, old mans child, naglfar use the more melodic phyrigian while bands like decide, cannible corpse use more locrian i believe
