Posted by admin on 25th August 2010 in Electric Guitar Tips
What thing would I need to know or get in order to start learning electric guitar? (I am going to look for someone to teach me).
I found this guitar on Trade Me-Is it a good one?, good price/value? and does it have everything I need to start learning?
Thanks
Sorry here is the link I forgot to put it on (DUH).

The guitar: great starting guitar, even I learnt on one of those. Obviously not the best but they’ree good guitars to start on, like the first 1-2 or whatever years. The amp is just a little practise amp, not bad but not the best. Don’t expect the sound of a marshal stack and $2,000 fender though, it is solely a beginning practise amp (that is what you are though so great deal). It is pretty good value for NZ (you do realise it is NZ?). Personally, I would get it (I did but I had an Ashton amp). The only thing to remember when learning guitar is to enjoy it, and play it often. Private lessons once a week and practise most days is great.
Start by taking lessons from someone who knows what they are doing. Don’t limit yourself to just one teacher – you might not like your first teacher so try more than one and stick to the one that you like and shows you how to advance. If you want to master the guitar take classical guitar lessons from a qualified teacher – this is a specialized skill so I emphasize the word “qualified” – not everybody knows how to teach this.

A guitar
Well, in my opinion in order to start learning the electric guitar you’ll need an acoustic guitar. Trust me.. If you learn with an acoustic guitar for a year, you will be so much better when you start playing electric. Acoustic guitar is actually harder to play, you’ll need to build up callouses and strong hand positions. Therefore once you make the transition from acoustic to electric, you’ll be able to play all the songs you know with much more ease. And besides.. When you don’t know how to play, let’s face it. Amplifying the notes is not going to help you, it will annoy you and maybe those around you. And when you play an electric without an amp it just sounds kinda dumb.
Best of luck to you!
