Nope. They both are played practically the same. You don’t have to play the acoustic to play the electric.

I started with an acoustic and i think it helped me out…A LOT. And make sure you learn to read the notes and know where they are on the guitar and stuff. Tabs work but learning the notes can be so much more beneficial in a lot of ways :-p

    actually
acoustic is slightly more difficult than electric.
    i learned on acoustic first
and i think that learning on acoustic first “trains” you (for lack of a better word) to not be sloppy.
but if you plan on only playing electric, you might as well save your money and just buying electric. cuz youll need the money for an amp.

    hope i helped. :]

the DVD lessons i used said that in fact it was easier to learn on electric guitar, and if it is truly what you want to be playing you will be more passionate about it. you should focus on the instrument you want to play, and the components that make up that instrument. You should look into Metal Method’s courses, i used it to learn the electric guitar and i couldnt believe how much i gained from it. this website is doing a deal on it right now if you want to check it out: http://guitarlessonreview.info/
