buy a scale book
when you first start out worry only about hitting the notes instead of trying to play fast. the better you get the faster you will want to play but you have to make sure that the play the notes clearly
good luck
Steve,
Unless you are a guitar training 8hr/day discipline god, then do the following (its the fun way to learn scales):
- google and download: free blues backing track in the key of a
- get a chart of the pentatonic scale (your root note will be at the 5th fret on the 6th string)
- play any note in the scale over the backing track
Its great fun being able to make up your own lead parts.
Then to take it to the next level, there is a website with more details and approaches. I’ll include a link below.
Good Luck,
John

Take online lesson. Firstly, online lessons for guitar are convenient for the student. Nowadays we all have a tendency to lead the hectic schedules, and always try to find time in our regular routine. So sometimes online lessons are very convenient to us and make it easier than a schedule lessons.
Secondly, the simplicity of taking these online lessons starts with the moderate cost. When we take traditional guitar lessons from a professional instructor, it is comparably much expensive to than those of the online lessons.
Thirdly, online guitar training can be very simple to understand, mainly for visual learners. Learning how to play guitar online gives students the possibility to enhance their skills from the comfort of their house.
Following a few sessions, you will know a few songs that you can play fairly well and the more you practice it will be in your grip. And before long you would not have to pay so much attention at what you are doing with the guitar and give more attention to the beautiful music you are creating.
A lot of people are interested in learning the guitar and spend a great deal of money on traditional lessons. Sometimes these lessons are successful while most of the times these lessons prove to end in dissatisfaction. Once you have experienced an unsuccessful attempt at learning guitar in the traditional way you might be a little hesitant about trying to learn guitar online.
