it doesn’t really matter it’s really up to what you prefer. if you’d rather play solos and rock or anything loud then electric, if your into soft lighter, more melodic music the acoustic. i play electric and it basically the same as acoustic just without so much up and down strokes.

I teach guitar lessons and I tell all beginners to start with electric.

Electric guitar neck is usually not as thick as an acoustic and is much easier to to learn chords on.

Most beginners will buy an accoustic, because usually the price is lower on them.

Unfortunately, they are indeed harder to play than an electric and this causes the beginner to get frustrated and the guitar ends up in the closet.

I recommend buying a low priced electric, but…CHANGE THE TUNING KEYS…to a high quality set of keys. (about 40 bucks)

All cheap electric guitars have cheap tuning keys on them.

If your guitar does not stay in tune very well, you’ll never learn to play properly.

If you need help with anything, feel free to contact me. I can show you where there are several free online guitar lessons.

    Good luck and rock on!

PS… There is a great new forum for musicians and fans of music from all over the world to get together and talk about their favorite music gear, songs, bands and anything else that is related to Rock N Roll and Blues music.
