Why my fingertips hurt when playing blues in accoustic guitar?
Posted by admin on 6th September 2010 in Blues Guitar Tips
I never have music teacher and I learn guitar by copying licks from youtube, but since I started practising pentatonic scale I find the skin in my left hand fingertips crack and it hurts more when I type computer keybord. Do you think we should only learn blues in electric guitar and not accoustic guitar, so we don’t have to press the string too hard, my fingertips were fine when I learnt chords in accoustic guitar. Or maybe I am using the wrong technique? Pls help.Thanks. Btw, I am a girl.

over time, your fingertips will develop callouses, in the meantime, if your fingertips don’t hurt, you’re not practicing enough!

Callouses are necessary for a guitar player. You will find that after the initial pain period, your fingers won’t hurt too much unless you lay off playing for a while and have to rebuild them. After years of playing you will find that rebuilding them after a layoff period is not nearly as painful as when you are first learning to play. You might try a classical guitar which has nylon strings. The fingertips don’t hurt as badly when building the callouses. The acoustic guitar is in my opinion a more natural element of the blues. Electric is great, but there’s just no substitute for good acoustic down home front porch skeeter slappin’ flyswattin’ blues.
Try using flat or flatter wound strings it will keep the fingertips softer.
Honestly i don’t like calloused fingertips either (I do have them but the flat strings do help)
