Once you know all the major, minor, and 7, chords in open position, and some basic strumming patterns, try out barchords. I wished I’d started them sooner. That or finger picking.
Music Sheets
start working on barre chords.
they require more finger strength and are harder for beginners but they can give you alot more options once you get them down.
More chords and scales. Itd also help to think of some songs you’d like to learn, and set out on conquering them. IDK if you can read tablature or not, but that is a huge help today, as well as getting comfortable enough with chord changes to strum along with a chord sheet, trying to find the strum pattern and general tune.
Oddly enough, one of the easiest and oft overlooked steps is simply listening to your favorites music. It helps tons when its time to learn a song if you can let the jukebox in your head play it while you’re accompanying.
Don’t forget to learn the basics of music theory, such as the sharps and flats in keys and stuff, its not the funnest, but its the building blocks of what we do. Right now, the most important thing you can do is PLAY AND HAVE FUN! Dont let yourself burn out, but dont let yourself quit either.
I wish you all the best in your playing, and don’t give up!
