Why are they so important?
And, which are the most important scales?

they are important because when you get right down to it everything is based off scales, even chords, plus that’s where guitar solos come from, and who doesn’t want to be able to solo on guitar? Even if you don’t want to, you need to learn them, the same way a lead guitar player should learn chords and jazz chords and rhythm so they can be the best player they can.
