how can i get my acoustic guitar back to standard tuning?

Posted by admin on 9th September 2010 in Guitar Tuning

i bought a tuning device, but i tuned my guitar to it and it sounds nothing like it should. I think something has to do with the Hertz that i can change on my tuning device… but what hertz number should i put it at in order to tune it correctly?

the hertz shouldn’t matter. thats all relative. you could change your guitar from an open E tuning to an open D tuning and you probably wouldn’t be able to tell the difference.

you are doing something wrong with the tuner. try tuning one sting, then tuning it by ear, than using the tuner to fine tune.

use a piano or keyboard to find low E

E on 5th fret is same as A
A of 5th fret is same as D
D on 5th fret is same as G
G on 4th fret is same as B
B on 5th fret is same as high E

or get an electric tuner, most come with a mic. i put mine in the acoustic guitar and look through the strings at it while i tune

    440. but you may have a cheap tuner see if it calibrates to this.

You need to make sure it’s set to A = 440 Hz. After that just tune it normally.
