what is the difference between a Folk Guitar and a regular accoustic guitar?

I just recently put strings on an old guitar I had collecting dust in the back of my closet. I am not very guitar savvy so I turned to the internet. I know it is a folk guitar. Are there kids who play accoustic guitar, not electric?

Whenever i see teens they always want to learn to play electric guitar. Also, in schools accoustic guitar doesn’t seem to be a popular instrument cause bands don’t use it. So mostly kids learn Piano, Violin, Flutes, other wind instruments and drums. Why my fingertips hurt when playing blues in accoustic guitar?

I never have music teacher and I learn guitar by copying licks from youtube, but since I started practising pentatonic scale I find the skin in my left hand fingertips crack and it hurts more when I type computer keybord. Do you think we should only learn blues in electric guitar and not accoustic guitar, so we don’t have to press the string too hard, my fingertips were fine when I learnt chords in accoustic guitar.
