High School Jazz Band Audition for Guitar Coming Up Soon and I’m Freaking Out?

Posted by admin on 3rd October 2011 in Blues Guitar Tips

I’m trying out for my high school’s jazz band next week. I’ve played guitar for a good year and a half but have not really been able to practice much. So, I’ve got only basics down: movable chords, a few scales (major, mixloydian, dorian, blues, and pentatonic) in their simplest positions, and some other types of chords such as sus, 13th, and what not but just a little. The worst part is I suck at solos and improvisations. I’m really nervous Read more...

I’m trying out for my high school’s jazz band. I’ve played electric guitar for a good year and a half but have not really been able to practice much. As long as jazz is concerned, I’ve got only basics down: movable chords, a few scales (major, mixloydian, dorian, blues, and pentatonic), and some other types of chords such as sus, 13th, diminished 7, and what not but just a little. The worst part is I absolutely suck at solos and improvizations. Read more...

What is a good beginner acoustic guitar for a high school freshman?

Posted by admin on 8th September 2011 in Beginners

I don’t want to purchase something so cheap that it will discourage him from music; however, I also do not want to spend more money than I need to on something that might ultimately end up at Goodwill. Thanks. Bookmark it: Read more...

Hey You – Pink Floyd cover Nashville high strung tuning

Posted by admin on 17th June 2011 in Guitar Tuning

A bit of a sloppy cover of Pink Floyds Hey You in high strung/Nashville tuning. Sorry about the middle bit, I suddenly forgot where I was. Tuning is low to high EADGBE String set is .010 .014 .008 .012 .018 .010 (high to low) BTW, this guitar used to belong to Nancy Wilson of Heart. It’s a ‘78 Washburn, no model number as it was custom made for Nancy who later traded it with Howard Leese. Howard toured with Heart with this guitar and you can see it Read more...

Are there any beginner songs for guitar that don’t require the low and high E strings to be played?

Posted by admin on 13th January 2011 in Beginners

I was playing my acoustic guitar and all of a sudden the low E string breaks. Moments after the high E string followed. So I’m trying to figure out if there are any beginner level songs that I can learn without having to use those two strings. I’ve had a guitar instructor for about a month, but have been practicing on and off for about 2 yrs now. Bookmark it: Read more...
