Okay, so I’ve been playing guitar for about 10 years now. I’ve mainly taught myself to play. I’ve learned legato, pentatonic (C,E, etc.) scale, I can play the intros to about 30 or 40 different songs, I’ve made my own songs (mostly classical kind of stuff with lots of alternate finger picking), I’ve made a lullaby type song with only natural harmonics, I can tap very fast on multiple frets on one string, I play Blues, Rock, Classic Rock, Read more...

i know i will have to use a pick eventually but does it help to first practice with my thumb so i can get used to my fingers on frets and chords? cuz i bought two books and one book told me to practice with my thumb first cuz i need to focus on my left hand (the non strumming hand) and its finger positions. the other book starts with teaching me with a pick. which way is the most effective and with help me learn the guitar better? thanks! I’m learning guitar on a tele (not that that matters) and having trouble concentrating on the ‘core’ of what I should be learning. (putting it all together) The stuff I like is usually pretty simple, rhythmic, ethereal.. I know all the major and minor (learning 7th) open chords.
