How do I know when I have learned a musical scale well enough to move on?

Posted by admin on 9th September 2011 in Blues Guitar Tips

I am learning guitar and I am wondering if it is speed or recall without looking at the fretboard that I need to be concerned about. The only two scales I know at this time are the Blues scale and the C Major scale. I am trying to better format my training so that I don’t move on to something else before I have really learned what I wanted to in the first place. I have learned some songs only to forget how to play them after I have moved on. Bookmark it: Read more...

Looking for a simple method to use musical scales to guitar and bass?

Posted by admin on 7th March 2011 in Guitar Chords

I have been playing guitar and bass for years. While I know many chords I am not able to understand how to apply the different scales to guitar leads or base patterns. Does anyone have any good websites for this?? Thanks Dave. I picked up bass after playing guitar. I understand that the bass patterns are actually chord progressions via notes. The bass is an awesome intrument, it is like you are playing a lead lick all through the song! Bookmark it: Read more...

I sing lead in the Deathbillies, and play guitar ONLY to play chords while our proper guitarist plays the solo. Johnny Cash does this for several songs in “Live From San Quentin.”. Is there a musical term for just playing the chords during the solos? “Taking the rhythm”? “Relief Rhythm”? Bookmark it: Read more...
