Songwriters: How can I take my guitar-playing/music-making to the next level?

Posted by admin on 21st May 2011 in Blues Guitar Tips

Hi, I’ve been playing guitar for about seven years, and I’m at a level that I would call “intermediate”. I can play fast, rhythmically, and clean if needs be. I’ve mostly practiced with classic rock, all kinds of metal, grunge, blues, and just some mellow acoustic chord play. I know my basic chords, but one thing that I think would help me is learning some of the more abstract ones, and what their names mean, as well as the theory behind Read more...

What should I learn next with the guitar?

Posted by admin on 19th May 2011 in Blues Guitar Tips

I am teaching myself how to play this sexy awesome intrument. So far I have warm-ups down good, I know the basic chords (E,A,D,G,C,F,Em,Am,Dm), and I can switch form one to another pretty well, I know some basic scales (Major, Minor Pent,Blues, Major Pent, and minor), and I am practicing the barre chords which are extremely painful. Still, although I am showing progress, I feel stuck, I dont know what to learn next, I dunno where I should go. Any suggestions? Bookmark it: Read more...

Posted by admin on 9th April 2011 in Advanced

Okay.. so i’m an advanced guitar player, but I’m getting sick of improving over Pentatonic majors and minors and one-string major/minors. Whats the next step in achieving a kickin’ solo? What other scales can I learn? Say I have a song in Gm, can anyone list all the scales I can choose notes from to create a complex, cohesive solo? Bookmark it: Read more...

Guitar.. what should i learn next?

Posted by admin on 23rd March 2011 in Blues Guitar Tips

Hi, I’ve been playing for nearly 2 weeks. So far I’ve learned E,A,D,G,C,F,Em,Am,Dm,B7. I know the E minor, E-minor pentatonic blues and C major scale and can play them fast. I can switch between all my chords pretty well, switching between them nicely apart from Dm and B7 which need a bit of work. I can play songs that include these chords. I practise probably 20-25 hrs a week. I’m starting to learn barre chords now. I think my progress so far is amazing Read more...
