Tips on playing guitar and singing at the same time?

I’ve been playing guitar a little over two years, so I’m pretty decent by now. I can play the chords and such to the song fine, but when I try to sing along it just doesn’t work out well. should i change my style of guitar playing and singing for my soon to be ex band mates?

ok. my band mates are kind of mad at the fact that i play guitar and sing how i do.
