Whenever I stand up and play guitar, when I strum (with a pick) my strumming hand’s (right) index finger keeps hitting the bottom E string, and it hurts. Is there any way to stop this? Am I doing something wrong? I like playing rock/punk music, so I have my guitar quite low.

Ive had my guitar for about a year and I have never had this problem. It never buzzed before that I noticed. And now I went and changed the strings ( ernie ball if that matters) and both of my guitars are buzzing. Im not an expert at the guitar. So Ill take any advice anyone has. Im still learning and I have never ran across this problem before. Thanks for any help I really appreciate it.

i’ve never played before, and someone gave me a classical guitar. it has 3 plastic strings (GBE) and 3 metal (EAD), but I really don’t like how different they sound.
i have 4 nylon spare strings. [e-1, e-6, g-3, &b-2]. should i mix the nylon and the metal, the nylon and the plastic, or what? i’ve never restrung a guitar before, so any advice is appreciated.

I don’t have string cleaner from the shop. But I just want to wipe down my strings and neck. What can I use that wont damage the wood or strings, but at the same time give it a nice clean?
Electric guitar, btw.
Thanks in advance!

alright, so I’m learning how to play electric guitar and I’m having a problem trying to play chords. it seems when i am holding down a string, my finger touches the next string slightly and mutes that string if it is part of the chord. is there anything i can do to try to avoid this other than just keep practicing.

I’ve always preferred using my fingers over a guitar pick and I always have wondered how to strum in between strings
for example
strumming between the E string and the A string at a medium tempo
What is the best way to strum between strings? If you can help me then thanks, I will greatly appreciate it.

I recently bought an acoustic guitar and the strings hurt my fingers. I’m used to playing my electric, and those strings are thinner and easier to play. What would be some recommended strings for this kind of transition? Brand/size or whatever would be great! =)

Ok, I have two electric guitars.
With both tuned standard:
65′ Silvertone’s strings feel tight, harder to push down and difficult to bend notes, everything just feels TOO tight.
Jackson’s strings feel perfect, nice and loose and easy to bend the strings all over the place.
is the difference mostly the strings? or the guitar? I’m a good guitar player, I’ve just never figured this out! My instructor suggested trying lighter gauge strings. Read more...
